The John L. Simpson Memorial
Research Fellowship in International and Comparative Studies is
a memorial to John L. Simpson to support research in
comparative studies that analyze similarities and differences
among societies and states, with respect to social, cultural,
political, and economic structures and policies, including
patterns of these relationships in global and transnational
systems.
· Award Amount: While you are welcome to
apply for all three graduate fellowships (Bendix, Sharlin,
Simpson), please note that the total award amount cannot
exceed $12,000.

The Allan Sharlin Memorial
Award commemorates the scholarly achievements of the
late Allan Sharlin, Professor of Sociology and an innovative
scholar in the fields of demography and history at UC
Berkeley. The award is made annually to students who show
promise of advancing scholarship in the field of historical
sociology, historical demography, or social history.
· Award Amount: While you are welcome to
apply for all three graduate fellowships (Bendix, Sharlin,
Simpson), please note that the total award amount cannot
exceed $12,000.

The Reinhard Bendix Memorial
Fellowship commemorates the scholarly achievements of
the late Reinhard Bendix, Professor of Sociology and Political
Science at the University of California, Berkeley. The
fellowship is given annually to students who show promise of
advancing scholarship in the field of political and social
theory as well as historic studies of society and politics.
· Award Amount: While you are welcome to
apply for all three graduate fellowships (Bendix, Sharlin,
Simpson), please note that the total award amount cannot
exceed $12,000.
· Due Date: Monday, March 18,
2013.
The International
Dissertation Fieldwork Grant will award a number of
fellowships of up to $10,000 for fieldwork. In line with the
Institute’s mission to support international and comparative
research at U.C. Berkeley, projects should be international
and/or comparative in nature, and/or involve substantial
research outside of the United States. Fellowship funds are
intended to support travel, lodging, and research-related
expenditures for a graduate student who is conducting research
away from campus. International students enrolled in doctoral
programs at U.C. Berkeley are particularly encouraged to
apply. Preference will be given to international students who
cannot apply for other sources of funding within the United
States.
· Award Amount: Up to $10,000.
