The award is made annually to a student who shows promise of advancing scholarship in the field of historical sociology, historical demography, or social history.All UC Berkeley graduate stuents in good standing who will be formally advanced to candidacy (will have satisfied all requirements for the Ph.D except the dissertation) by Fall 2012 may apply. Funds will not be available until the student has advanced to candidacy. While you are welcome to apply for all three graduate fellowships (Bendix, Sharlin, Simpson), please note that the total award amount cannot exceed $12,000.
